 If you are planning to study abroad, you will probably be asked to provide your entrance exam test scores for the under-graduate and graduate programs. Entrance exams are an important consideration in the admission process at schools abroad. Following are some of the entrance exams that you may need to take to study abroad.

Test of English As A Foreign Language (TOEFL)

It is a test for English language proficiency. Most colleges and universities require students whose native language is not English to take this test for admission. It is a necessary exam for the students wishing to begin undergraduate or graduate study at a foreign university. Usually the cost of the exam depends on the test location you choose. Generally, the cost ranges from US$160 to US$250 which is equivalent to approximately 10,095 INR.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

It measures the ability to communicate in English across all four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking. The IELTS test focuses on “International English”, which includes British English, American English and other varieties like Australian or African English. The cost for IELTS is around 9000 INR.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

It is needed by many schools and universities. This computerized exam is offered several times in a year. It tests students in their verbal skills, quantitative skills, and analytical reasoning skills. The fees for GRE are around $160 which is equivalent to10, 095 INR.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

The GMAT test is computer adaptive, meaning that instead of determining your score using a fixed set of questions, the exam provides you with questions of variable difficulty based on your answers to previous questions.  Business schools commonly use the test as one of many selection criteria for admission into graduate business administration programs principally in the United States, but also in other English-speaking countries. The GMAT will cost you around $ 250 which is equivalent to 11,250 INR.


It is a standardized test, formerly called the Scholastic Aptitude Test and Scholastic Assessment Test, frequently used by colleges and universities in the United States to aid in the selection of incoming freshmen. The score a student gets on the SAT is often used as a predictor of how a student is likely to perform in college-level studies.  The SAT will cost you around $52.50 which is equivalent to 3312.41 INR.
